A poem this morning after the revelations of this week. Yes, I know there are trustworthy men. Yes, I know there are women who commit sexual assault. Still…62 million views in one month on a rape site.

The Weight

I don’t think
it’s only “some men”
women worry about.
Not anymore.
Their crimes are exposed
on repeat,
each week a new boulder
on the pile
with us at the bottom,
the weight of it
felt
with anger fused with sorrow
with fear fused with empathy
as they use our bodies
and brag to eyes
that see but hearts
that feel nothing
but pride.

As a man I'm disgusted with this,
I feel anyone who rapes,
Should be castrated.
Especially when it's considered
That someone who's a rapist,
Doesn't get the punishment to
Fit the crime.

I don't know the video, or what the rape academy is, but I do understand this poem—predatory men to be feared.

It has changed the way I, as a man, am perceived as I walk down the street, live my life. I am suspect.
