The Salutary Indifference
Before the dilution out of the spasm-act,
the thinning
of the collided;
the hard-held widening;
the yielding, the attenuation,
the iron gaze opening away in the sandfall;
the composition’s burning score
beyond the upflaring; soot flakes & seabird,
the flock of letters
in flight in all directions;
the Viking ship burning on the horizon,
the pointwise dissolution of consciousness
into small creatures
that carry you, eroded,
in small fragments of memory
through the vast amnesia of humus;
the restless perplexity of individuality
long since lost
to the salutary indifference of the general
