My Intent
There may be those believingit is attention I seek
when I reach out my hand
through words strung together
into lines of expression
to form a poem
shaped by my soul.
It is connection I seek.
I am not unique
in my life experiences.
The traumas that have wounded me
have touched others,
leaving scars that connect us.
We are all caught in a web,
recognizing the tremors of struggle,
the flinch of memory.
The moments that inspire joy
reach around the world.
A baby’s giggle,
innocence bubbling out
like the pop of a champagne cork,
inevitably sets off
a round of smiles.
Who can resist?
In that moment, a poem is born.
I write to purge my fears,
to share my moments of wonder,
to examine an issue,
explore the complex
and the obvious.
I write of both the profound
and the mundane.
I write to remember
and to question.
So if my words offend,
or you find them unworthy,
remember…
this page holds thousands of poems.
Just pick a different poet.
