An exploration of relationships - the ideal, the reality, and the possibility of failure.

The Intersection

We find ourselves at an intersection.

Does the light stay green,
the color of forward motion,
an open road
cruise control engaged,
no thought of tomorrow?

Yellow cautions complications,
back seat drivers with watching eyes,
too much baggage in the trunk,
the little time we have
corroding the engine of togetherness.

We could gun it?

Perhaps we will catch the red,
a disagreement,
a life event that stops us cold,
abandoning the car,
turning down a side street
and walking on alone.

May the light stay green.

It's an interesting conception; theory well expressed. True, of course, and the metaphor of traffic signs is clever. I am however, thinking - as a result of reading it, obviously - that in between the colour changes there could be moments of fiery passion (as well as deep depression) where the existing relationship might evolve on it's own pathway ignoring the ulterior of the signs. But that's just me. Nice read. Well written. Blessings, Allen
