Lumumba’s family is demanding reparations from those who ordered the murder of Patrice Lumumba, the first leader of the Congo. The Belgian authorities did not return Lumumba’s remains — only a tooth. the Count Davignon was the only survival.
“I would propose that we pull out one of Count Davignon’s teeth, now that he is dead, and offer it to Lumumba’s family as compensation to close the case.
That way, the law of retaliation would be respected:
an eye for an eye,
a tooth for a tooth.”
