the keel

he was the sail
she was the keel

I think it is an interesting metaphor
for if you compare your education as a sailboat
the sails make you go forward
but without a dead load, you lose the balance
and you drift

the keel is something you find beneath the boat in order to balance with the strength of the wind and not to drift

I don't know much about sailing or even what a keel is, but I like this.

On a pure sound basis, sail sounds so soft and breezy while keel sounds hard and earthy.

That's how I'm reading this poem.
