The Platypus
The duck's bill, the beaver's tail, and the otter's webbed claws-
mold me into a menagerie of flesh,
a monotreme,
embodying a balance of different other,
but man-
a mosaic of love, wisdom and humanity,
partitions his singular race on lines of categories,
fencing the wall-less world with 'us and them'.
Call me grotesque or nature's ultimate anomaly
I stand with my own truth without apology,
despite my hybrid self
I prove life can exist, I exist, I am my life,
devoid of grief,grudges,guilt and greed,
I have learned to be comfortable
on water, on earth and within me
still discovering what that means:
peace, prosperity, happiness
all the while measuring
the worth
of my soul
joy-filled in the glorious rapture
of merely living
in my wilderness and wildness.
