A friend expressed that hope is a demon when it keeps us locked in unhealthy relationships. I reflected on this and decided that yes, clinging to hope without realistic expectations and self-care is not healthy.
draining the reality of what is,
leaving us hollowed out,
craving infusions of magical moments
of what might be if…
if only.
I have chosen hope,
blinded by the word itself,
let it shadow me,
dazzle me into believing;
afraid to raise the wooden stake,
expose the piercing illusion -
I have welcomed its glimmer.
Once hope leered at me,
insisted the power was mine
to change the future -
each day a battle
between hope and fear,
twin monsters with fangs
that bled me dry.
Now, I am no longer prey
but presence, life restored
by energy kept as my own,
pulsing through me
with a steady, resilient peace.

Hope is a Vampire
Hope is a vampiredraining the reality of what is,
