Summer Murmur
Thousands of them
stand along the roadside ditches
talking,
their open faces swaying in the wind,
their long bodies
Are they the audience queuing
for Bob Dylan's Judas Concert in Manchester,
May 17, 1966?
– or are they Russians
queuing for gasoline in Omsk;
the oxeye daisies
along the road to Gunnarsbyn,
while the little bluebells, in clusters,
devoutly ring
the bells for Vespers
across existence
