The Great Thermodynamics
...and there was a time in the 1960s
when the schlager singer Stefan Rüden,
working as a clerk
at Kullberg's Bookstore in Nyköping,
tried to sell me
a Deutsche Grammophon LP
of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Gesang der Jünglinge,
some thirty-five years
before that same giant of contemporary music
flew me down to his hometown of Kürten,
thirsting for my words & images
on the review site I had just launched,
Sonoloco Record Reviews,
as the new millennium
was just opening
its worldly department store,
and Karlheinz
had been honored
with the Polar Music Prize
Much later,
I sat in Luleå with Terry Riley,
discussing Alan Watts, Chögyam Trungpa,
their alcoholism,
and impermanence
Life gradually trickles through
its enchanted forest,
only, in time,
to become part
of the great thermodynamics' cyclicity,
where we all become
pillars of cloud,
precipitation,
and swirling winds
