Redefined

Being newly in love is
fine…

by hopeful pulses of possibilities
reflected in eyes seeking their beloved,
faces flushing with electric tingles
as hands caress with fevered fervor
until the body is fully mapped and known.

Feeling safe in love is
defined…

by soft breaths and easy words,
a quiet acceptance of the humdrum,
peace filling up the spaces
when trust is forged in iron
and sealed with the gift of truth.

Growing old in love is
redefined…

by the holding on, as bodies weaken
and life slows down to seconds,
the gentle reassurance promises made
have been promises kept,
as hands caress with tender memory.
