The Language of Silence

1. A Little Quarrel
I don't like this much peace.

Come, let's wave our hands,
move our feet,
and have a little quarrel.

2. The Language of Silence
I cannot read
the language of silence.

Spitting on myself,
I quietly paste myself
onto a silent wall.

3. After the Autumn Rain
It rained last night,
rain in autumn.

Stepping out for a walk at dawn,
I see the park bench
glistening beneath
the lamppost's light.

Here and there along the road,
a few water snails.

4. Aquarium Civilization
On the water
where people swim
in the pond by the field,
the marks of human beings.

Forgive me,
O aquarium civilization.
I cannot become
a colorful fish.

5. The Four Rooms
From Green Mango's Greenroom,
we stepped out
and, holding the hand
of a wayward Valmiki,
arrived at Red Chili's Reading Room.

Then came so many words,
so much laughter,
so many songs.

Then, to Yellow Banana's Yoga Room,
where I lost my pen.

And now, through the very existence
of that lost pen,
I can write better poems,
sitting here in Blue Berry's Basement.

6. Questions for the Sea
I had gathered
a great many questions,
meaning to ask the sea.
Watching the sea's
restless waves,
I realized
my questions had disappeared.

When I returned,
all that remained
upon my body
was the touch
of saltwater.

7. A Philosophy of Water
A flock of birds
flew across the evening sky.

There is no shortage of science
within them.
Nor is there an excess of science.

In the morning light,
the trees are filled with
Togor flowers.

There is no shortage of beauty
within them.
Nor is there an excess of beauty.

Water flows
through the drain.

Fish move within the water.

To me,
that too
is a philosophy
