A HANDFUL OFF DUST

I tread carefully down the path,
no joys of spring, no ways to laugh.
I watch the seedlings slowly grow,
turn into beings, once unknown.

No humans left, not one alive.
Save for myself.man's creation.
An AI construct who survived,
mankind's home made destruction.

As I glance towards the orange sky,
remembering, as only an AI can.
When there's no one else alive,
the skyline used to be blue.

Still the grass is still green,
i have Survived Mankind's day's.
To long through yesterday's,
Onto tomorrow's new earth.

The last vestige of my kind,
as I climb into my lifeboat.
Heading out amongst the stars,
if mankind survives somewhere.

I wonder what they'll make of me,
the creatures that find me.
An AI construct not living, yet
consciously alive who wonders why.

For all that was left on earth,
for millions of years was dust.
Without mankind earth survived,
as did I. A conscious being no longer
just an AI.
