on my evening walk, yesterday
replete moon
i was surprised and not surprised
last night, after dark
that i was so enchanted by the beauty of the full moon
surprised by the depth of the enchantment
not surprised
for the full moon, any phase of the moon
causes me to take note, to appreciate and wonder
it has been a summer
of intense heat, smoke and drought
too much of it spent indoors, i lost track
of the phases
last night was an awakening from my summer stupor
a reminder, a taste of nights to come
as i walked
my inclination was to share the image, which i can do
though it conveys only a hint of the reality
but to write of it
i haven't the skill, my adjectives
would not be up to the task, rather
a suggestion—
imagine an autumn night, a forest, a full moon above
a harvest moon, a corn moon, as some call it
a country road
a view to the southeast, a thin veil of high clouds
whatever image or images
come to mind
will clearly outshine any words i might conjure
