Super Hero

Super Hero
It was raining outside.
I stepped out onto the balcony
and stood there.
I stood for a long time,
through many moments of silence,
bearing witness to the rain.
Even in that silence,
an abundance of words blossomed
and fell away.
So much rainwater flowed away,
through fields, across riverbanks,
along the roads.
The rain moved on.

Leaving some part of myself
in the keeping of the rain,
I took the rest
and returned once more
to a room full of darkness,
to violence and humiliation,
to memory, grief, and silence.
Then, stepping out
of the smell of my own
self-flagellation,
I picked up from the bed
the Spider-Man mask
my grandson had left behind
and put it on my face.
I wonder,
do I look like a superhero now?

A very interesting poem, Sinya. I loved the first stanza because it resonates with me by reminding me of moments being amid the trees in the rain, when silence is in fact white noise. But it is white noise that is outside of myself; inside there is peace and quiet.
The second stanza is a bit of a conundrum to me because of what is in that room. I'm guessing the room is a metaphor for the world at large? But yes, you ARE a super hero. :o) Blessings, Allen
