Scores of 4s and 5s dotted the report her doctor was ticking off even though her uterus had been summed up at the top of the page with one word. Bad.

"It's basically okay, just not a good uterus anymore," the doctor reassured her, writing "human being" onto the line for "story type."

"Story type," the doctor mused in her heavy Eastern European accent. "That one always throws me a bit."

"Maybe they mean what literary style it is," she offered, "like contemporary, romantic, postmodern, surreal."

The doctor considered this for a moment by sliding her bottom row of teeth along the edge of her upper. "It's nothing that specific," she decided.
