Something I wrote years ago as a young soldier just back from Vietnam.

It struck me that birth and death shared much when I saw my daughter born in 1973.

A Soldier's Cadence

Elastic hugs, warm comfort, free floating, a mother's sighs.
Day dreams, muted sounds, watery caresses.
Pushing, throbbing, shoving contracting.
Quickening beats, pulling hands
Sounds deafening, gushing warmth.
Acceptance comes, tearful cry, curious light.
Holding arms, caring bosom, tender embrace, a mother's face.

School done, Army braid, marching bands. a mother's sighs.
War bound, hellish sights, cringing sounds.
Rifle shot, stinging mist, medic yells.
Quickening beats, pulling hands.
Sounds deafening, gushing warmth.
Acceptance comes , tearful cry, curious light.
Holding arms, caring bosom, tender embrace, a mother's face.
