My Grandfather lies in a hospice tonight waiting for death. This in a summary of his emotions...

The Flames of life

In places far too dark
My weary mind wanders
On this bleak October eve.
Shoulders sagging; eyes tired,
Knees longing for a rest.

Even stars should twinkle,
Yet they stare at darkness
Shivering deep into lifeless space
So cold and hollow, lifeless,
Unaware of brilliance this night.

Pleasure and emotion gone away,
Twisted into screaming agony
Much aligned in demons fury,
As a monolith of pagan rituals
Begin their tortuous journey.

Slowly marching toward the east
Away from the sunrise into the dusk,
Rides Time and her sister Death,
Gliding into darkest blackness
Snuffing out the flames of life.
