I will always remember the special visit I had as a 16 year old.

The Visit

Your visit will last me a lifetime
Will shape my destiny
Will clear my past
Will infect the present
Your visit chilled me

It thrilled me
And it willed me
To believe

Silently you rose above my bed
Like a cloud you formed
Over my head
You are from the distant dead
Grandmother
I did not know you in life
But you came to me
A mother, a wife
A child, a soul
Living on and on and on

Thought to thought
Mist to mist
Being to Being
Spirit to Spirit

Sing to me Grandmother
Breathe in me Grandmother
Stay with me Grandmother
Ever present, ever alive
ever being, you are
me, Grandmother

Look into my eyes and see
All that I am and hope to be
Grandmother
I am
We

Oh Kathy! This touched me and brought tears to my eyes. I remember my grandmother Rhodes so vivdly and with so much love. I miss her more the older I get. Once again reality stated so well it is universal.

A somber and glorious poem to your grandmother. I am glad you were able to learn so much from this person and see them in your family. This is a great write! I can feel the warmness and the love!

When I look at a picture of Grandma Julie I can see you in her.
This was an amazing thing that happened to you and I believe it was for a purpose. She had gifts for you. I believe one was the gift of special strength she knew you would need. She also gave you what she gave to our mother, her daughter. It was the gift of the art of poetry. You carry that gift on beautifully and do her and our mother justice in your art. You are gifted in many ways. This poem is precious.
