I was recently in the store-watching a very spoiled child yell at their mom to buy them this and that--and the mother complies. It is unbelivable to me how spoiled some kids are--especially here in the USA. I wish they could see a poor child--how their ho

A contrast of want and need

Roasted Beef, Candied Yams
Potatoes galore
Candycanes and Chocolates
Trains and Video games
Clothes, Jewelry..
Feelings of warmth and contentment..

A few grains of rice
Week-old bread
eaten with
cold fingers
stomach still growling
Chocolate? What is that?
Ragged clothes..clinging to
A frail frame
Sadness and Despair..

Mooooom!! Can I have this
Video Game? To go with the 50
I already have at home! Can
We stop by McDonalds, too?
I really want a juicy burger
And some fries, too.

Mommy? Do you think I
Could have another bit of bread?
I am so hungry..my stomach aches..
And some clean water? Please..
That is all I want..
And maybe a pair of socks..
To cover my feet.

You're so right.
It's time to think. To consider. And to react....!
Right on the spot, Teala.

Your poem is a real epitom of today's world. More people should read it, especially those who consider themselves as 'haves' so that widening gap between 'haves' and 'have-nots' could be minimized if they could realised.

perhaps by killing the enemy, ignorance, we can allow more to live...

you can change the world with your own two hands, and allowing people to see how deprived other parts of the world are...

Teala, maybe this should go someplace where more people can read this. It is so piercing, so poignant... Does my heart good to see that someone else feels like me, that the world needs to change... really.

Great write!

Teala darling you know, I love this, I just can't but love it!
The compassion you show here is so examplary!
Yes, how today's world is devided between 'haves' and 'have-nots'...and it is growing by day....the contrast is glaring... Yet, we stand and watch and some even 'turn away', to 'save them selves the pain' so to say...!
((Hugs for his compassinate write)))

Dear Teala,

Thank you for reminding me of the huge inequailities that there are in the world, as viewed through the eyes of two very different exemplary children.

A timely and worthy poem for Christmas.

Cheers, Chris

It all started with the phrase " I will give my children everything that i didn't receive growing up" there is only one problem, appreciation of what you have compare to what is given to you!!!
