It is very warm here today, like a summer day. I began thinking back to those wonderful days of my childhood. I was truly blessed. So this comes from those dreamy thoughts of Back Then...

And All Is Well With The World

Hot summer days drowned in lemonade
Dipped in a summer's eve
Blouses without sleeves
Sleep comes with soft ease
In
Hammocks under trees
And all is well with the world

Fresh ice cream made in maple leaf shade
Churned by daddy's strong hands
Sticky faces tanned
Momma's waving fan
Cools
Ripe strawberries canned
And all is well with the world

Hours in the sun, chasing all that is fun
Through white sheets on the line
The billowy kind
A peaceful state of mind
Drifts
Upon clouds, reclined
And all is well with the world

Play Hide and Seek; remember, don't peek
Now count from one to ten
A gathering of friends
At dusk in backyards when
Smiles
Turned into wide grins
And all is well with the world

From morn til night all was safe and right
In those ages of yore
That sweet time before
Stormy seas hit the shore
Of
My innocent lore
And all was well with the world

Back then

All was well with the world

A most enjoyable read Kathy, it has an almost dreamy quality to it, sort of wafts the reader along" And all is well with the world"indeed.

Oh how this thrills me! It's perfect! I experienced much of this with you. I was a few years older, but I enjoyed all these things. Our little house so full of people, we had to get outside to grab a good breath! Thats what made summer so great, the expanse of outside. We roamed the neighborhood without a care or fear in the world. You always managed to get a little more dirt on you than I did. You had that eternal dirt necklace around your neck. And you just didn't care! You were a sweatty little thing. I had to put powder under my neck because I couldn't stand to be sticky. So I guess between the two of us you managed to have more fun because you never worried about the sweat or the dirt or if your outfit matched. You had two round fat cheeks, a turned up nose, two large deep-set laughing brown eyes, dimples and poochy lips. Your hair was white-blonde in the summer and cut in a little bob. You tanned quickly, making the hair look whiter. (Oh yeah, it was always tangled.)You looked a lot like a quepie doll.
I can see from an adult perspective now what a cutie you were. And what a character! You were made for summer.

the changing of seasons does the same for me, sends me off to those moments of my life when time was free and summer break spent with friends just enjoying being alive and having fun was the way... that's exactly what your poem makes me feel (aside the huge grin on my face :) ) ... the words are alive and dancing that freedom and beauty of childhood, so descriptive felt like a little movie clip for me... very beautiful :) *hugs* xx

This is a beautiful nostalgic poem, conjuring up those wonderful hot summer days from long ago - where summers lasted forever - a bookmark for me because of the sheer joyous feel that this exudes to the reader
