With hope in their hearts and dreams of better life for their loved ones many face desperate conditions to satisfy the needs you and I take for granted.

Freedoms Land

In the scattered mesquite patches
from below the Rio Grande
sheltered 'neath the darkened skies
as a stalking moon ascends.

There's an endless stream of seekers
with little in their jeans
who brave the wrath of bitter winds
for those they left behind.

Drawn by dreams of better days
they risk it all at times
near a muddy stretch of lonesome
on the way to freedoms land.

Kathy Lockhart
oh my the deep emotions, the fear, the bravery, the flight for a better life for themselves and their families all are wrapped up in this image-filled poem.
