Dedicated to all the innocent people who lost their lives due to nonsensical politics. I'm sorry that it had to happen to you.

A different me

It seemed impossible until it happened;
Teenagers turned into war mongers
Neighbor turned against neighbor
And my country's green
Turned into a chilling red.
I never thought war was my problem-
Sure they fought in Iraq
Thousands died in the DRC
Women were raped by Colombian rebels
Children dying in Darfur
Millions remain homeless in Afghanistan...
I watched from the haven of my home;
In my warm couch, sipping tea
While my dog warmed my feet.
I felt sad that it had to happen,
But forgot all about it the minute
I flipped channels and saw my favourite show...
I just never thought it would come home
Never thought I'd fear for my life
Nor for the lives of my loved ones
One thing though I have learnt
Is to never be indifferent to other people
To try and help
Even when I don't think I can do much
