A night/dreamscape - is it real?

Night Shadows

Night Shadows

A jewelled black velvet settles on the night
While selene silver sprays the starlit scene,
Transforming rustic views to black and white
From daytime vivid hues of blue and green

So shapeless shadows shroud my sleepless soul
And fearsome fancies terrorise my eye
There lurks behind each tree a fearsome troll,
While nameless horrors follow me close by.

And so with pounding heart and quickening feet
I set my way on brighter paths to walk,
By fields familiar, past the lovers' seat,
Down cliff-side steps carved roughly in the chalk.

There time stands still upon the ageless sand.
Primeval moonlight lulls my soul to peace.
A silver pathway beckons to a land
Where weary hearts may rest and troubles cease.

The shimmering shingle sings a lilting air
That swells and dies and murmurs with the sea.
O that forever might I rest just there
To sing with nature's sweetest harmony

But mortal man must wrestle with his tide,
To rise and fall in season like the waves.
So I, in turn, can find no place to hide
As drawn I am to those ancestral graves.

Back through the shadows now I must return
There to await the daylights healing grace.
Then to renew my hopes perchance to learn
A purpose here upon this earthly place.

Within that Eden-scape now bound am I
Forever to return with mind and heart
And when the time shall come when I must die
This mystic paradise and I shall never part.
