Windfall

Far and away
The tall trees sway
Speaking soft psalms
Yearning for yesterday

Our tight lips terse
Our short words worse
While the whisper wind blows
That silent curse

Fall in mute
Stay in suit
Raise no timid protest
And voice no flute

But shoulder your pack
And forget what you lack.

Pay no mind to Fate's fears
Draw no sight from those tears
But watch your wistful futures
And cast doubt your ev'ry sneer

Move with grace and pride
Flowing from all sides
Let no scarlet drop show
Let no courage subside

Bear immortality with ease
Watch clouds cover all not appeased
Push under all dirty detracts
Only unmarred may you proceed

For you are a child of God
So steal no lowly base nod.

Driven to fault
Failing high vaults
We rest in coarse sand pits
Hurting yet more with salt

Letting wrong voice pass through
Ourselves given to zoos
Rain drenches our too dry souls
As they gasp that we slew
Found holes in our tightrope road
Hidden roles we've been just told
Pleasure in a nature low
Joy in simplicity's sold

But you gasp in sorrowed shame
Not ready for these our games.

Yet revolt's begun
Found fathers 'gainst sons
Lightning sev'ring
Battles not yet won

Driven to dark deeds
Pulled by lighted leads
As night casts shadow
We give root our seeds

With elegance they sprout
Young radiance no doubt
Near the earth so lowly
Desp'rate elders cast doubt

But we wage our little war
And weather untruths no more.

So here now new days rise
Light we ourselves surmise
Basking in the cool grass
Choosing pigments and dyes

Content soft near ground
Rested when we bound
The old order dead
We fashion our sound

For lifted up that high
Running through white sky
Man wants ample air
But there none can fly

For at those high heights there is just survive
And we to live need more, need base, need thrive.
