Repression Breeds Resistance

You run miles in square circles
22 strides long by 11 wide
Brushing the walls with your shoulders
Nudging them outward
Pushing against your confinement

Flying in minds eye
Challenging their oppression
You daydream of loved ones
And glance at the sky
On the straightaways

22 strides long by 11 wide
You fight all the battles
You won on the streets
You breathe with the cadence
You set with your feet

And when you tire
Before you're ready to stop
Your mind recalls the story
You've told so often to me

You think you can
You think you can
You think you can

As the little engine
Struggles to the top
And the joy of others
As they change the chant

You thought you could
You thought you could
Never say can't

So the pain melts from your lungs
And settles in your heart
As your stride opens up
To the place at the start

A new cadence grows
As you cover the distance
One we all know....
Repression breeds resistance
