If the Truth Hurts...

You tell me I make you think too much
Sharing moments of your life with me
You never speak about out loud
It's been said, that the face of honesty
Is like staring into a mirror
I say to you, if this is the case
If you don't like what you see,
When you look deeper into me
Perhaps I merely remind you
Of a part of you that you don't like...

The truth does hurt and can also free if we can listen to others without dragging us down with them. Alot of us have apart of us we don't like if we are honest. What is an obvious truth is people will always try to put their opinions, emotions on you it is whether we believe in ourselves or believe in something stronger than us that can overcome what hits us from the other person.

Very interesting from a social-psychological perspective. It's been said we discover our selves by experiencing others' reactions to us; presumably we can learn much about ourselves, at a more developmentally advanced stage, by reflecting on our own reactions to others, as the poet here suggests to her addressee... Great write!

Yes I found this to be an unusual and clever poem, it's a case of 'if the cap fits wear it' and is very well written.

I some times envy those people who seem never to think about anything beyond the everyday events of their lives. Yet, I am not anything like those people, so if they want to get to know me, they will have to accept me for who I am. Your poems are always insightful and heartfelt.
