Ode to a Mirror

I don't feel sorry for you anymore
Looking back you had no choice
But to simply move on, step by step
Anyway that you could
Any advance no matter how small
Can snowball into an avalanche
From a tiny seed positivity can grow
If we learn to stop telling ourselves no
Your tears don't hurt me anymore
I understand they needed to be shed
You felt like part of you was dying
But that was the part you gave away
Left to an uncaring gardener
Who forgot you needed sunshine
And only brought you rain

I don't feel sorry for you anymore
You have made mistakes for sure
But you have grown from them
Taken what has damaged you
Made it yours, owned your demons
And found the courage to soldier on
When you thought you didn't know how
You woke up, brushed your teeth,
Combed your hair and smiled
When your pain made you feel ugly
Pushed it aside for the love of your child
When you felt an unworthy mother
You did what you needed to do
Without knowing you had that power
No, there is no pity, only inspiration

A hero or heroine resides somewhere in all of us. It's important to look into the mirror and acknowledge not just our failings, but the courage we set forth every day. Inspirational and insightful poem.

I think this is as much an ode to survivors as an ode to a mirror.
Very inspiring so thanks to Dee and you.

How clever. Self pity is tempting but soul destroying. You can indeed be proud of yourself.

Hey Purple, this is such a positive poem!
It is no use blaming oneself,
but tackling problems as they come
and face all odds,
that is the right spirit!

All the best to you!
Love,
Zoya
