Carnival

World spins

out of control,

revolving

into a carnival.

Feasts of Fetish-

Delights of sins-

Masquerade masks

with nightmare grins.

Lick the wishbones.

Festivals fed

convivial clones-

Day of the Dead.

Preceeded by Lent,

is the true carnival-

*removal of flesh*

redemption of soul.

Convivial--adjective

friendly; agreeable: a convivial atmospherefond of feasting, drinking, and merry company; jovialof or befitting a feast; festive

carnival-

the season immediately preceding Lent, often observed with merrymaking; Shrovetide.

carnival origins of the word:

1549, "time of merrymaking before Lent," from It. carnevale "Shrove Tuesday," from older It. forms like Milanese *carnelevale, O.Pisan carnelevare "to remove meat," lit. "raising flesh," from L. caro "flesh" + levare "lighten, raise;" folk etymology is from M.L. carne vale " 'flesh, farewell.'

The rhythm beats out the message. It's much like a lone soul crying out in the midst of the desert. Merriment continues drowning out the voice of truth. ~~~~~~

that's my emotional reaction. You stirred me deeply. : ) kathy
