Books with chains

not allowed to read books
reader imprisoned
tortured

many dies
unknown victims
relatives not knowing where
they rest

tools of a regime
photos from an album
all growns and children
must pay for this crime

doesn't matter
if you're not innocent

nothing left
as memory from childhood

finally only gray hair
remains

This was a sad read, but thanks for the reminder of our priveledged life.

What remains is the aftermath of never again!
How well I can relate, even now at this time and place.
Well suited for those with wisdom enough to endure

This spare and intense poem reminds us how lucky some of us are to have the freedom to read and write here at our fingertips, in our homes, anywhere, anytime we choose.

Best Wishes,
