The hardest way to communicate

Looking through a cloud of smoke,
I watch you out of the corner of my eye
Follow the tone changes in your voice
Jump unexpectedly at your big laugh
And try to hide it,
Take a sip of Kopperberg

It'll be alright in the morning

Avoiding every question every gaze
Lightly joking away any inquisitory remark
I don't even brush against your arm when I pass
to get seated at the other far end of the table
I walk away with a wave at 12 04 pm
Without a word en confidence
Without touching any of the thoughts that are
Paralysing my mind
And surely are hidden in yours
I know you, you're the cleverest person I've met for a long time
See but not understand
Want but not try
Try without effort

It'll all be better in the morning

I look for you on my way through the Meadows
I turn my phone back on once home
I log on to web chat
I pour a glass of whiskey – I hate whiskey
But it's still so silent

It'll be different in the morning
– but it'll still linger

Like,

Silence settles imposingly once the storm has blown past
Are we looking for an explanation, or merely a light breeze
To break?
