A note on today's society.

Shells

Dig me a grave as shallow
as myself and I,
shall pay you kindly.

For I have never seen
a sunset such as this,
as I have lived blindly.

We all walk this Earth
with a keen disguise,
now I am tired of compromise.

I know I have become
a shell of a dream,
that hides behind my eyes.

Paper gods corrupting minds,
extinguishing aspirations,
and destroying souls.

I have drifted in this sea
of materialism and greed;
watched as I drowned all my goals.

So now I beckon,
I scream,
I cry.

I tell you this one truth,
above all:
never allow your dreams to die.

shells
It was the title (for obvious reasons) that made me stop and read this and glad I did, enjoyed immensely, it is so easy to drift and to let our dreams do the same.

An astute commentary on present day society. I think we've been trained to accept whatever dream we are told we need in lieu of building and chasing our own dreams.
