Everything Undone

Everything has become undone...
With no attempt to fasten anew
Any buttons that may be pushed
Through holes or toggles through loops.
No studs will be pressed together.
Ribbons will not tie and elastic will droop
I cannot be laced at shoe or boot
And my bodice is not hooked to eyes.

Loose and unhindered by catches
Am I.

No turtles drape the throat
Belts are banished to a far land
No circles round the fingers
No terrapin tight smile.

Undone undone
And flowing down stream
Wondering how to avoid
The unhinged lands.

Nicely (un)done, Linda. I greatly enjoyed the situation described by this poem and the way it was described. I can't wait to hear your report from the "unhinged lands." Larry

'Tis better than being straight laced and buttoned up, it was the title that caught my eye and the rest certainly followed through.

For the lucky ones, 'au naturel' is the only appearance needed, and it keeps up itself. Either the land or you must be unhinged so we must keep appendages oiled :-)

A wonderful poem! The long first stanza is so fine that it is hard for the rest to measure up to I think; the aquatic metaphor is an unexpected (for me) conclusion, but I think I can "feel" it...
