We lost each other

You came to me,
in the darkest hour,
where all night had gone from my world,
when I was trapped in an illusion I cannot escape.

You stood away from me,
gazing on,
sorrow and regret in your eyes.
"We lost each other", you told me.
I looked on,
tears clouding my vision,
grief and despair gripping my heart,
bringing me back to those memories again,
of the time I swore to exist only for you.

There was so much pain between us,
so much words left unsaid,
so much feelings that were just ignored and rejected.
There was something that could have been,
something so beautiful and so strong that you fear it.

Alas, my love,
seems that we have lost the path to each other.
There is no road I take now where I can see even a hint of your footsteps,
where previously, each path I walked on,
had your imprint deeply imbedded in it.

Your eyes now a mirror to my own soul,
betraying a love so deep and sincere that words are futile,
Each beseeching gaze filled with overwhelming emotion.
"We lost each other", you say again.
as if it could bring back the path we shared,
that moment in time where we had so much together
and our lives were enmeshed.

I cannot seem to cross the distance over to you
and neither can you find the path back to me.
When reality broke through and I opened my eyes,
the illusion shattered,
the image of you still in my mind,
so vivid and real that I could almost close my eyes and feel you again.
The hour was still dark,
my world still the void that you left me in.

All light has simply gone after you left,
forsaking me like you did.
Darkness has you wrapped in an illusion,
which somehow grows dearer to me than the reality without you.

"We lost each other", you whisper through the haze that lingers,
hinting at a memory of lost promises and broken love.
It seems that I lost you forever..
