However we meet we must build a bridge to carry our meeting place so that we can reach each other's beginnings.

Making Bridges

So we will make a bridge
One that reaches from there to here
From you to me
And back again

It will be made of many oddities
That we find from where we are
That we will pile high and somehow fix
That will span out over the gap
You might laugh at what I use
I know I will laugh at yours
But that doesn't matter
Does it?

I will start the tower with a strong foundation
I will dig deep and lay down some trust
With iron bars to lift up belief
On the wings of butterflies
That light colour and song
To hold together laughter
And the words I am to give you
When we meet

I have ideas by the dozen
Some are rusty and almost forgotten
Some have had to prised from the past
Where they were starting to atrophy
Some are fresh as skylight
My ideas tie together
And slowly build over the chasm to meet you

As I look, I see you building
I see the tower of your strength
Standing tall like a hopeful promise
The warm wind carries the taste
Of your dreams which start so far away
I see you tie laughter together
With passion and there is your trust
Arising at last

So slowly the bridge is growing
The wind shakes the resolve
And the war cracks some of the strings
The gap is almost together
Carried by gentle birds
And in the light of the sun
On the shimmering haze
Above the world
We meet

The bridge we have made is very strange
It is our bridge though and unique
Now I can stand tall with you above the land
At a place where we can talk
And share aspirations and sorrows
Understandings and future beliefs
We can run together to discover our histories
Over our bridge
