Er so I guess.... Uncle Ikey may be struggling with the openness of this day and age, but he's a tough one, and I do believe he'll survive (and end up with even more sage advice for having lived through it). :)

I can only imagine what Ikey thinks of some parents now who refuse to acknowledge a child's gender, refusing to allow anyone, including schools and the child itself, to "label" them as boy or girl. For me, I have a hard time getting my common sense around that . . . how does one develop a healthy sense of identity by pretending gender doesn't exist? It's a strange, strange world.

Regina says it's better to talk about stuff, get it out in the open. I agree with her, but nobody asked me. I imagine it's taking a bit of getting used to on Ikey's part. Understandably so. We tend to like change to come incrementally. But, there is no doubt, it is time.
