Dear Mum

Why all the moaning?
Just give it a rest.
I'm just about coping,
When you're at your best.

Take a moment and listen,
I'm doing what's best for me.
Maybe you could understand,
Maybe you could see.

Yes you're 30 years the wiser,
But that doesn't make you right.
I can't wait for me to prove,
Just wait you'll see in hindsight.

Why all the judging?
Life is best without it.
You can't make me change,
So live with it and embrace it.

I'm sorry I'm not your perfect daughter,
Long dresses and high heels.
But what makes a person is much more than that,
Personality, and that's a fact.

I am one and I have two, I get it from both sides, not easy at times on either side. Breathing space is good. I hope she has read it.

In time you might see that she was thinking of what's best for you in her eyes, and you might regret not listening to her, but for now, it looks like you have to be who you are, as long as you take responsibility for the consequences of your decisions. I hope you are at least over 18 years old.
