Soldiers Prayer

Hear me God, this soldier prays to you
Another patrol is about to ensue
Rifles, grenades, ruk saks on
Don't know how long my squad and I will be gone
Patrolling a place completely unknown
I pray to you so I am not alone.
I kiss the cross around my neck
Trying so hard to keep my fears in check
Senses alert, eyes all around
That first shot heard we hit the ground
Rifles firing all around, oh my god what a sound
Then I hear screaming "man down"
Taking cover, I can't see a thing
What a fight these bad guys bring
I close my eyes and take a deep breath
Today there will not be a soldier's death
Hear me God as I pray to you
This soldier and his crew need to make it through
A soldiers prayer I say everyday
Another patrol is on the way.
Out the gate ICV's and Stryker's go
One behind the other right in a row
I close my eyes and pray to God
Please bring them back from Riyadh

I am really not good with true stories of war because I have not experienced it. The repetitious prayers to God tell us just how dire the circumstances are. I cannot even begin to feel how hard it must be in that situation. Thanks for sharing.
