Poem for D.

Yesterday, friend, at 7 Star Grocery

where I was buying bread and coffee

and you were scratching lottery tickets,

I called you beautiful. And you waved off

the compliment. Yeah right, you're crazy.

I could think of nothing to say in my defense

except: I'm crazy in the best possible way.

A fine piece of poetry, this.
I love poetry that describes life/experience in tranches, moments.

This is a cinematic poem, I can see it.

Lawrence Beck The PoetBay support member heart!
A few entries below this is a poem, written in a rhymed, awkward, ridiculous antique style, which asserts that free verse poetry is no good. That writer should read this poem several times to absorb its compact gracefulness.
