Inspired by a recent visit to a family grave.

Epitaph

One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
I forget the magpie rhyme
My mother taught me.
Father is just below me,
Taken when I was eleven,
My Nin, too, one year later,
One for sorrow,
Two for sorrow;
And there is another here,
Unmarked but never forgotten,
My first born, taken when she was
But two weeks' old;
Three for a girl,
No, no, no,
One for sorrow,
Two for sorrow,
Three for sorrow.

I too lost a daughter when she was 15 days old but have never seen her grave. I could relate to this, although I was taught the french version of this un pie bonjour :-) Graves are time for reflection on this our visit
