Achievement
The shadows lengthen as the sun retreats.A subtle sort of sadness settles on the
Soybean fields. Another day is near to death.
Another list of tasks which should have been
Accomplished sits unchecked, its author
In his cups outside, examining the soybean
Fields, abandoning his urge to do in favor
Of his urge to let the world whirl peacefully.
We're only here a little while. Visits to
The hospital of late have made this clear
To him. If some task goes undone, so be it.
If the mind feels shame or guilt, the mind
Itself is what's undone. The world needs no
Mind to mind it. Suns will set and restless
Humans will make out their lists and die,
And shadows will be long at dusk, and also
Dawn, when all begins, regardless of the
Status of the one who holds the pen.
