St. George's Day, 2020 - a daydream

Hark the approaching drum,
Tum-tum-tum, tum-tum-tum,
Listen to the pounding beat,
Listen to the stomping feet
Dancing to the mystic tune
Of rising sun and waxing moon.

Hark the shaking tambourine,
Dressed in light and rustic green,
See the ribbons fly and flutter
Around the dancers in the gutter,
Look at the playful morris folks,
Meadow maids and bawdy blokes.

Hark the clashing of the sticks,
See the twirls and fancy tricks,
Hear the tapping of the shoes,
Music of an ancient muse,
Follow the rhythm pub to pub,
Fill yourself with beer and grub.

Celebrate spring with jingling bells,
Dress with flowers the wishing wells,
Dance for life and dance for love,
Praise the Earth and Heaven above,
Let your mind and body sway
To the silent sounds of
Saint George's Day.
