Of Opiates and Leaves of Grass
First choice will always be the pill. The poppy takes the pain away,
And leaves well-being in its place,
But second will be Whitman's verse.
His ecstasies act as a solvent, stripping
Off the decades' soot and grime, thereby
Returning me to where and what I was
Before my world became dark.
