The Hitchhiker

Life is not a Roman road
It twists
It bends
It swerves
Our baggage seldom safely stowed
Ahead dangerous curves

Life is not a river straight
Its speed you cannot vary
Its waters may be wide and deep
Perilous to the unwary

Reach out to me and hold on tight
Use all your strength
And all your might
I cannot make the journey stop
But with you I can go

Reach out to me and take my hand
Grasp my fingers, take command
I cannot stop the waters
But I can help you stem the flow

So hear this weary traveller
When uncertainty is rife
Reach out, I am a hitchhiker
To accompany you through life

jim The PoetBay support member heart!
It's tough going through this life alone, reaching out smooths the rough spots, and it's good for the soul.

Good poem, Mack.
