Compline

The satin black patina of the ancient oak stall

wraps itself around you as a prayerful carapace

worn to comfort by generations of habits

polishing and forming its contours to

ergonomic perfection

the preidieu cradles your body in warm embrace

its cushioned rest caressing your knees

your body gently pressing against

the soft pliant leather of worn psalters

a loving womb of caring

the meditative chrysalis complete

that guards your nascent being

as it wanders in prayer and silence

in search of God.

Such an evocation! I loved the imagery of the prayer stalls; the whole poem is a meditation - well done!

To steal another's comment: Yes, this is a very rich(ly) descriptive poem.

Fine, I would call it "rich," writing, Joe.
