Atlas

I can relate to Atlas,
Condemned to carry the world,
Would not let go,
His responsibility is his burden.

I feel like I get pulled at,
From every limb,
I’m pulling back with a smile on my face,
Lest someone gets to know the turmoil underneath,
My mind hanging by a thread,
My anxiety ready to take over me,
My depression ready to brand me a failure,
Do I have any time to rest?
When failure isn’t an option,
How would I have any shred of peace?

You need to earn!
You need to provide!
You need to succeed,
In order to survive,
You’ve got no godfather,
Barely even got a father,
Absent while he’s romancing the bottle,
Financials have got me in a throttle.

I need to build an empire from the ground up,
I need to prove what I am to myself.

I can relate to Atlas,
Like him, I too am condemned,
To carry the world on my shoulders.

I liked the simile of Atlas; as signifying the burden we all carry of the worlds expectations; and it is a brave person who can shrug it off. A good poem - conveys clear.
