... some thoughts during my (baby) brother's tangle with stroke last week.

scare

life would go on without you

that much is true, without a lie

but it would never be the same

where everything’s outta frame

as you lay there unconscious

vomitting and out of it, scare

dare I even whisper your name

limp and shutdown unresponsive

my mind and thought on lockdown

would you even make it home

scariest night of our life thus far

i was a clueless kid, clueless still

holding newborn you in my arms

standing on the kerb waiting

as mum and dad drove out of

the old hospital parking lot

so clueless then, still clueless now

should’ve been me having lived longer

how can tomorrow be faced now

that life for us has been rent asunder

We write poems of imagination, usually. Then reality strikes. You captured that (nightmarish) reality.

Best wishes for you and your brother.
