Lesson 69

He don’t dream infinitely enough, so
she surpassed him quite easily. It was
a scene that shook the family’s core though
had they paid attention, they’d had seen what
everyone at school, for ages, had known,
but they at home had eyes been blindly shut.
Thus, his world was shattered, and all the while
they turned their eyes to her, and she smiled bright

because this was her sweet revenge for which
she’d planned for ages. Yes, though he had been
the genius, she knew that what was rich
could be lowered in value, if its sheen
was dimmed, so she slyly tricked him to ditch
dreaming for the dull through mindless machines.
Thus, her world was bettered, while he would slunk
to the background, now crowned newly second.

Fate would have it that this exchange was blessed
because he liked being forgot by them
as it gave him freedom, once unpossessed,
while she, it seemed, was made for prominence,
basking in the light, born to be the best.
And each sank comfortably to roles they’d dreamt
not knowing, nor caring just how happy
the other was. Each too busy laughing.
