INDISPUTABLE

A glitch in the matrix has been seen
The equilibrium of matter is disturbed
Ripples across the water have ceased
A strange calm illuminates the scene
As age is borne around the square
People stand with grief increased
A million cameras waive in the air
Life will not be as it was before
Hearts are urged to not despair
There is need of a new direction
To dream of heavenly perfection
So drop to your knees and solemnly
Send prayers into the incensed air
Genuflect in holy expectation
Raise your eyes towards gray skies
For the truth is now emphasized
In this world even the Pope dies.

Your poem is very good indeed. The Pope tried his best in a world that hardly knew him. 'Life will not be as before ...' I fear not. Goodness knows, it is more than bad enought as it is. Peter

There's a peaceful air to the words here... it's sad, but the conclusion is the truth. I didn't know Pope Francis had died before reading your poem. As you know, I'm not exactly religious... but of the 3 popes I saw around in my life time, Pope Francis struck me as a person who really did his best to act in the spirit of how Jesus would, he stood out. He was evidently a kind and compassionate person, and I heard how he reached out to people. He seemed to me to better represent what a pope should be, anyway. Sad news to hear he's gone... Beautiful poetry, as always, merci.

I enjoyed this Allen; the way you lead the reader to the conclusion in a good rhyme scheme, and we can say _ The Pope is dead - Long Live the Pope!

...the Queen ...the Pope ...the POTUS ...in our mind it seems we still have room for legend and superstition... might be the fabric of our collective consciousness for such things... as with the golden calf, robin hood, the boogeyman and such
