The Doctors Get Their Payments. The Insurance Company Gets its Premiums. What Do I Get?

New blood test results are in. The white blood cell count's gone on
Rising, not the ones which work the best at fighting off infections.
They've grown scarce. The reds are holding up, but more and more
They're small, misshapen, not that good at carrying the oxygen my
Body needs. The kidneys are not working right. There's too much
Glucose in my blood. None of this is news to either me or those
Who watch my health. The numbers simply follow trends we all
Have watched for many years, and, though things just get worse
Not better, though I'm short of breath and feeling worn out nearly
All the time, the ones who've pledged to guard my health appear
In haste and smile blandly. "You seem to be fine."
